How to Install AA Browser
Because AA Browser is an open-source tool distributed directly as an APK download, you must execute a quick developer setup to display it on your car dashboard. Follow our simple, step-by-step checklist below.
Unlock Android Auto Developer Mode
Open the Settings app on your Android phone and search for 'Android Auto'. Once inside the Android Auto settings menu, scroll to the bottom and locate the 'Version' field. Tap on the version information card repeatedly 10 times. A confirmation prompt will ask if you want to unlock developer features. Tap 'OK'.
Enable 'Unknown Sources' Option
Look at the top-right corner of the Android Auto settings screen and tap the three-dot menu icon. Open the 'Developer settings' option. Scroll down until you find the 'Unknown sources' checkbox and check it. This allows the Android Auto system to display applications that were installed outside the official Google Play Store.
Download the Official APK File
Navigate to our official download page or the GitHub releases page on your mobile device. Download the latest compiled AA Browser APK package. Make sure you get the stable release to guarantee rendering stability on your vehicle monitor.
Install the APK Package
Locate the downloaded APK inside your phone's file manager or browser downloads folder and tap to install it. If prompted by your OS, grant file managers permission to 'Install unknown apps'. If you prefer automatic updates, we recommend installing the APK using the Obtainium updater application.
Launch & Synchronize
Unplug your mobile phone's USB connection and plug it back in to restart the vehicle console interface. AA Browser should now appear inside your car display app launcher list. If the icon is missing, open Google Maps or Waze once to force the head unit's app list to sync.
Critical Troubleshooting Rules
To prevent background rendering errors and lockouts, adjust these phone settings after installing:
- Battery Rules: Navigate to Phone Settings → Apps → AA Browser → Battery, and set battery usage parameters to Unrestricted. Android battery optimization services will otherwise terminate the browser background thread.
- Verify USB Cable: A loose or low-speed USB cable will repeatedly crash Android Auto app lists. Always use a high-quality data-certified cable or an official wireless dashboard receiver.
- Waze Launcher Trick:If you don't see the AA Browser icon after plug-in, launch Waze on your car dashboard first. The system GPS sync resolves a stock Android Auto launcher synchronization bug, immediately updating the app launcher icons.
