Is AA Browser Safe?

Privacy and road safety are paramount. Read our transparent explanation of the codebase, permission requests, analytics engine, and road safety regulations.

100% Open Source Auditability

AA Browser is published under the GNU General Public License v3 (GPLv3). Every single line of code, rendering script, and system interface is publicly inspectable in our GitHub repository.

Unlike closed-source apps or proprietary web browsers, we have nothing to hide. Developers from across the globe inspect the build parameters to ensure no malicious activity, trojans, or spyware are bundled in our APK binaries.

Privacy-First (No URL Tracking)

We believe your browsing activity is your business. AA Browser does not collect or transmit visited URLs, search inputs, passwords, or cookies to external servers. Your history and active sessions remain saved locally on your mobile device.

  • Zero Account Setup: You do not need to register, log in, or authenticate with any service to use the browser.
  • Zero IP Logging: We do not capture or log user IP addresses.
  • Anonymous Self-Hosted Analytics: We employ a private, self-hosted instance of Umami to count basic app launch triggers and monitor version distribution. No personal identifying information is tracked.

Driving Safety Warning

Never operate AA Browser while you are driving the vehicle.

Using a web browser or playing video streams while controlling a moving vehicle is highly dangerous, illegal, and causes serious road hazards. AA Browser was created strictly for:

  • Vehicles that are completely parked or resting.
  • Passengers sitting in the front or rear seats of the car.
  • Monitoring system diagnostics or EV charging cycles during stationary periods.

As the driver, you are legally responsible for vehicle safety. Always prioritize road awareness and abide by local transportation safety laws.

Safety & Security FAQ

Does AA Browser require rooting my device?

No. Root access is not required to run AA Browser on your phone or car. Sideloading is performed by enabling Developer Settings within the stock Android Auto app and selecting "Unknown sources." This process utilizes standard system permission parameters and does not jailbreak your phone.

How can I verify the authenticity of my download?

Always download the APK file from our official landing pages or our GitHub repository. We provide SHA-256 hash codes for every compiled build file. You can run a checksum verification on your computer or phone using command line utilities (like `shasum -a 256`) to verify the file has not been altered or compromised.

Is a physical hardware bypass required?

No. AA Browser does not require OBD2 modifications, speed-sensor wiring bypasses, or external dashboard intercept hardware. The restriction is bypassable within Android Auto software settings, saving you from hardware adjustments that could void vehicle warranties.
