Common Questions
Everything you need to know about AA Browser.
What Android version do I need to run AA Browser?
AA Browser requires Android 15 or higher. If you're on a newer OS version, check the Android 17 guide for any version-specific setup notes.
Do I need to root my phone or modify Android Auto?
No. AA Browser installs as a standard APK — no root, no ADB, and no modification to Android Auto itself. You just need to enable Developer Mode and allow unknown sources within Android Auto's own settings. See Install for the full walkthrough.
Can I watch YouTube or Netflix on my car display?
Yes. AA Browser supports DRM-protected video playback via Widevine L3, so you can stream services like YouTube and Netflix in fullscreen. This is intended for passengers or stationary use only — never while driving.
Does AA Browser have ad blocking?
Not currently. Ad blocking is a known missing feature and is on the community's radar for future development. You can follow the GitHub repository for updates on this feature.
AA Browser isn't showing up in Android Auto. What do I do?
On some devices, AA Browser won't appear in the Android Auto app list until you've opened Waze at least once first. If it's still not showing up after that, check our Troubleshoot & Fix page for device-specific steps.
How do I get automatic updates?
Install via Obtainium to track new GitHub releases automatically, or install through AAStore, which surfaces update notifications directly.
Is AA Browser safe to use?
AA Browser is fully open source under the GPLv3 license, so the entire codebase is publicly auditable. It collects no personal data — only anonymous app-launch counts and version info via a self-hosted Umami instance. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I contribute to AA Browser?
Yes — AA Browser is community-built and welcomes contributions. Visit the GitHub repository to open issues, submit pull requests, or check open feature requests.
